Intorno al 1860 Michele Caputo e sua moglie Teresa erano Mastri Cantinieri nella tenuta di proprietà di Afragola (NA). Commercializzavano i vini sfusi su tutto il territorio cittadino e nella provincia di Napoli.

Maggio 1937, Afragola (NA), Antonio Caputo fonda le Cantine I.V.A.M. (Industria Vinicola Affini Meridionale). Il suo estro e la sua lungimiranza lo portarono già in quegli anni a scommettere sui vini in bottiglia.

Le cantine Caputo di Afragola erano dotate della grotta tufacea più grande e profonda del paese. Le vinificazioni avvenivano o in grandi vasche di cemento o in botti di rovere a 20 metri di profondità. Negli anni ’50 e ’60 vinificavano le uve della Campania (Ischia, Campi Flegrei, Mondragone, Vesuvio, Penisola Sorrentina) e rifornivano anche le mense militari.
